About the Course:
In CPD 368 SUM25, students will complete four hands-on micro-internships across diverse industries:
- A Fortune 50 Corporation
- A Regional Nonprofit Organization
- A Global Maritime and Supply Chain Leader
- A Convention and Visitor’s Bureau (Tourism Industry)
Students will:
- Earn 3 academic credits while completing 120 hours of project-based professional work
- Receive real-world feedback directly from industry professionals
- Develop skills and confidence in a cohort-style setting, learning and growing alongside peers

This course is ideal for students exploring professional paths or those looking to build strong experience before applying for traditional internships or work-based learning opportunities. Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s own Dr. Barbara Blake, Executive Director of the Monarch Internship and Co-Op Office, will serve as the instructor. Dr. Blake is a nationally respected leader in workforce development, education, and economic strategy across Virginia. She is a Senior Research Fellow at Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s Dragas Center for Economic Analysis and Policy and has led major initiatives to expand work-based learning for thousands of students. Her expertise connects higher education and industry to strengthen talent pipelines and improve professional outcomes.

Dr. Blake’s professional work includes published research on labor market trends, the economic impact of opioids on the workforce, and salary trends for legal professionals. She is a Certified Economic Research Professional (CERP), a 2022 Inside Business Award recipient, and a contributing columnist for COVA Biz Magazine. Known for her collaborative leadership and real-world insights, Dr. Blake brings dynamic expertise to CPD 368 SUM25, helping students develop professional skills and strengthen Virginia’s workforce.
