School Based Internship Requirements
Includes:
- Background check
- Certifications
- GPA
- Grades, all Coursework including CLEP scores (except courses currently enrolled in)
- Official transcripts
- Official Test Scores
DegreeWorks and/or Leo Online Test Scores is a great source to double check what student teaching requirements our office has on file for you. Missing certs and tests scores can be submitted to oce@odu.edu with your UIN in the subject line.

- You must attach a current resume to your application.
- Some districts require specific forms to be submitted along with your application. Please attach the appropriate district form to your request if applying to:
- Fredericksburg City Public Schools
- Chesapeake Public Schools (students with 2-7 week placements - complete 2 applications)
- Norfolk Public Schools
- Suffolk Public Schools (students with 2-7 week placements - complete 2 seperate applications)
- Virginia Beach City Public Schools (students with 2-7 week placements - complete 2 applications)
- Confirmation
- You will receive a confirmation email once your application is accepted.
- Orientation Course
- After the internship request dealing for the semester, you will be added to a Canvas Student Teaching Orientation Course
- It is your responsibility to routinely check the course for important updates and opportunities (scholarships, job postings, etc.)
- Mandatory Orientation Meeting
- You are required to attend a synchronous Mandatory Orientation meeting approximately two weeks before the start of student teaching.
- Official Placement
- Once you are qualified to begin student teaching, the Office of Clinical Experiences will send the official placement information to:
- The student teacher
- The University Supervisor
- The clinical faculty

Required Assessments
All candidates are must complete the Virginia Board of Education prescribed assessments with passing scores.

Clearance Background Checks
All candidates are required to complete the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Field Experience Clearance Procedures prior to the Orientation. This process takes eight weeks to complete.

Other Requirements
- ALL course work, content knowledge and professional education as listed in your curriculum, must be completed prior to the orientation;
- ALL GPA and grades requirements must be met as listed in your curriculum; and
- Transcripts from external institutions documenting completion of required courses.
Fall – School internships will start the first day of school after Labor Day
Spring - School Internships will start the first day of school after Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
